We have talked about a few ‘Comeback Kids’ lately, including textured wall paper, lighter natural colors, and icy pastels. Today, ‘metals’ are joining the comeback list, the warm ones in particular. From mirrored surfaces to shimmering clothing, metallic surfaces and fabrics are infiltrating home décor and fashion. The best part of it all is that you can mix metals in a variety of finishes to turn a space from boring to modern chic. I just love it when metals can play nice together!
I found the picture at the top of this post on the Elle Décor website, and I am inspired by the simplicity of Jackie Astier’s Manhattan apartment. The effortless combination of the antique brass cocktail table, brass cabinet knobs and velvet tufted couch look amazing. The custom drapery panel adds height and provides balance to the heavy pieces at the floor. Quite an impeccable space with a combination of contemporary and antique pieces.
Nothing warms up a gray wall like adding a pop of antique gold in accessories such as candlesticks, window treatment hardware, or side tables. Don’t be shy about adding brass throughout your space; the picture below is a great example. Hunter Douglas’ Pirouette® window shadings offers metallic fabrics in an array of stunning colors with a glimmer of metallic satin. I dare you to mix metal, wood, or textured finishes! I promise that combining finishes will add dimension and interest to flat surfaces.
