More important, as much as 50% of a home’s heating and cooling energy is lost through its windows. It’s no wonder why so many of us are trying to make our windows more energy efficient.

Do you feel the need to do some more research on the ‘energy efficient window coverings claim’? The Energy Department may be a good start. In a recent article, they say: “Carefully selected window treatments can reduce heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer”. On their list of energy efficient window covering products, they mention properly installed window shades as “…one of the simplest and most effective window treatments for saving energy”. This includes cellular shades also known as honeycomb shades. Interior shutters and draperies are also included, as is layering of window treatments, which may be my favorite.
So what do you think? Is energy efficient and style an oximoron when it comes to window treatments? Based on the pictures I have included in this post I would say the answer is ‘No’!
