If you’re looking for design inspiration for your home, you might want to check out a builder show in your area. It’s a great way to see the latest home décor trends. Recently I visited The Street of Dreams builder show in Portland, Oregon and toured state of-the-art homes packed with the latest technology and trends.
Add texture with tile
I saw many different types of tile, including glass and ceramic. Custom tile mosaics stood center stage in bathrooms and kitchens. Some tiles were even three dimensional, adding an element of texture and interest to flat walls.

Store your wine in style
I live in the Willamette Valley, known for their delicious pinot noirs. So, it was only fitting that many homes featured elaborate wine cellars. My favorite wine cellar was located on the main floor in the center of the house. The cellar had three glass walls and was filled with wine. To reach the wine overhead, they had installed a vintage library book shelf ladder. It was magnificent!

Complete the room with window treatments
Window treatments are my life, so I was excited to see stunning window treatments on display. The Pirouette bedroom below was by far the most spectacular use of Hunter Douglas® window coverings. The room glowed as the Pirouettes filtered light deep into the room, totally transforming the space.

Set the tone with wallpaper
Wallpaper played a big role in setting the atmosphere in different rooms. The most beloved was this gorgeous, elegant wall paper on the ceiling in the entry way of one home. A very creative way to set the tone for what the rest of the house had in store.

I also loved this birch tree wallpaper. It was a very unique way to add a touch of nature to the room.

Choose sustainable décor
Here in Oregon we are very “green,” so it was splendid to see many homes feature repurposed materials. One home used old outdoor shutters as wall art, another featured a children’s bed made from reclaimed wood and the “Ultimate Man Cave” was made from wood out of old local barns.

Don’t forget outdoor décor
Even though I live in the Northwest, outdoor living spaces were given the same level of attention as the indoor spaces. Outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, televisions, pools and glorious landscaping were among the highlights of these tremendous outdoor spaces.

Add elegance with antique mirrors
Antique mirrors were another hot item. From antique mirrored clocks, cabinets and wall art, it was everywhere! It added an elegant shabby chic touch to the décor.

Bring the inspiration home
The Street of Dreams is an appropriate name; most people can only dream of such amenities as a wine cellar in the middle of their home. However, many of these ideas can be incorporated into any budget. Find an antique mirror at estate sales or vintage shops to hang in your entry way. Add textured wallpaper to one wall in your dining room to add contrast and interest. Add pillows to outdoor spaces to create the feeling of an outside room. Repurpose old items to create shabby chic décor.
Small, inexpensive updates can make a massive difference in your living space. Get inspired!
