The White Plastic Purge – Child Proofing with Style!

by Christen

Are you wondering how to balance the care of your newly wandering baby or toddler with your lovingly designed home? We have good news! You no longer have to choose between your child’s safety and your sense of style. Of course, parents always go with the safety option but it does hurt a little bit to put that ugly baby gate at the top of our beautifully varnished hardwood stairs. Not only can we not get into our cupboards with ease, we have to look at those VERY white, plastic locks sitting on our carefully chosen vintage hardware every time we walk into the kitchen. No more! Décorview is here to help with some stylish child safety ideas that maintain and maybe even add to the look of your home.

Gates that look like they are meant to be there!

Whether your style is modern, traditional, or eclectic, you may be surpised at the baby gate options that will fit seamlessly with your current décor.

Have a lot of hardwood? Prefer natural wood accents? You might want to go with a custom wood slat baby gate like this one:

For the more traditional décor, you might choose something more elegant:

For the modern look, you might like the Loft Aluminum gate from Munchkin:

For the shabby chic, repurposed baby gate, check out this barn door baby gate from Remodelaholic (that’s right, you can make one, too!):

Child-safe fireplaces that maintain their centrepiece status

Create a safe, homey fireplace by filling the it with books, creating a space for toys, or covering it with a chalkboard like Portland fashion designer Holly Stalder did:
