We absolutely love a good makeover story, don’t you? Whether they are major renovations or small changes in accents (new shades, perhaps?), it’s always inspiring to see a room undergo a transformation. We are extra excited about inspiring makeovers this week, and wanted to share a few of our favorites.
From Cold to Cozy – Star Tribune
This amazing makeover features a two-story great room a vaulted ceiling that was turned into a much cozier great room with coffered ceilings AND a new master bedroom above. The makeover is somewhat controversial – some people think it was a terrific choice for a too-familiar, somewhat dated feature of the house and others think it is a travesty. What’s your vote?

An Understated London Terrace Kitchen – Design Sponge
Before the makeover, this London kitchen was a narrow, poorly designed, and barely functional space. By co-opting the adjoining patio space, which had been covered by dated plastic sheeting, and roofing it in wood and glass, this couple doubled their space. It’s now a stunning and functional kitchen in grey, white, and black, with lots of wood accents.

1920’s Bungalow Transformation – Samuel and Pandora
A 1920s bungalow is totally transformed. The change in the living/dining space is particularly striking. Before, it was completely dated, featuring mid-century built-ins that had certainly seen better days, and hideous wallpaper. The transformed space is barely recognizable, with its dark wood floors, light grey walls, white woodwork, and sleek furniture.

Client Before and After – Haven and Home
Marianne Strong really brightened up this space! Dark grey-brown walls are replaced with light grey and white ones, dated furniture gets the boot, and a pale sisal area rug centers the space. The end result is a completely light, cozy living space.

Oh Joy’s Studio: The Living Room – Emily Henderson
Of course, we are a big fan of Emily Henderson’s home makeovers! It’s hard for us to pick just one (so you should go check out her design portfolio, and then enter to win an Emily Henderson makeover of your very own), but blogger Joy Cho’s studio makeover is definitely one to check out. The transformation of the boring, blank studio space into a bright, welcoming living room is definitely one of our favorites!

Sarah Richardson Dining Room – Marcus Design
Canadian designer and television personality Sarah Richardson works her alchemy on an extremely dated dining room, originally decorated in rust and tan. In her able hands, it becomes a much brighter and more modern vision to behold.

Done – Beautiful Protest
Another blogger named Joy transforms her dated eighties kitchen, filled with oak cabinetry, into a polished updated kitchen with grey cabinetry, white subway tile, and pops of sunny lemon accents. This is definitely a shiny, happy kitchen makeover.

Dining Room Makeover – Domestic Superhero
The Domestic Superhero actually darkens her dining room, with a striking, hand-stencilled accent wall. The effect? Delicious.
