I recently had the pleasure of working with a return client who was doing a complete gut and renovation of their new office space. The two-story building needed a lot of work, but the bones were great and the potential that could be seen in this Art Deco-style space was amazing. I got the call to help with the finishing touches – lighting and window treatments that would complement the beautiful work already done by the renovation team: an architect, project manager and contractor.
The secret to good window treatment design is finding a look that not only meets the practical considerations of a space but that complement, enhance or showcase the interior as a whole. The client was very hands-on and had a solid idea of what they wanted. They took great care selecting colors, styles and fixtures that retain the Art Deco feel of the space. Designer Screen shades with Cassettes were used throughout in order to control the glare. This will allow the office staff to work in total comfort.
I’m always happy when black screen shades can be used because the darker color makes it easier to see the view to the outside. Dark blinds bring the outdoors in and open up an interior, lowering the barrier between inside and out. And of course, black trim and details are not only ideal for carrying the Art Deco style, it’s also very much on trend for Chicago interiors right now. Trendy and timeless: what a great combination!
It’s a genuine delight to work with clients who have such a clear, cohesive vision. The challenge of matching the Art Deco style of the renovation with the practical considerations of a day-to-day office demanded some creative solutions. I was fortunate to get to put the touches on this beautiful restoration, which honors the building’s past while creating a comfortable work environment for its present.
