In my last post, I wrote about a very special job I had working on a new home on 10 acres that boasted over 100 windows. The simple elegance, clean lines and quiet glamour of the Hollywood Contemporary home needed special consideration and held special challenges. Last time I wrote about the master bathroom. This time I’d like to share another unusual job: a kid’s bedroom in a very, very festive color.
One of my client’s children is mad for the color orange. And not just any orange: a bright, vibrant orange that seems to glow with its own inner light. This added another layer of challenge to this room, which was also in keeping with the style of the home, with no moldings, hardwood flooring and large windows.
As I mentioned before, my client has a very strong sense of taste, and she wanted simple, spare lines that communicate softness without suggesting drapery of any kind. We went for Silhouette window shadings in every room. The blinds soften the lines of the home without compromising the look. This was especially evident in the bright orange room: in there we chose a crisp white silhouette to tone down the orange and soften the look. As you can see in the picture, the result is beautiful – soft, clean and allowing the perfect amount of privacy and light control.
There is more work to be done – last I saw it, my client had not moved the furniture in yet – but I am delighted with the results my team has achieved in this new home. I know my client is happy with the new window treatments as well. It’s so rare that a designer gets to work on a blank slate with a client with a distinct vision. A great experience with a fun and fabulous outcome!
