Light filtering blinds: reduce glare, without losing all light
You may think all room darkening shades are thick and heavy, but sheer shades such as the Silhouette® window shadings allow you to control light and reduce glare without completely blocking all light. As you can see in these photos, Silhouette® shades completely transform a room. When the louvers are open, Silhouettes take harsh sunlight and disperses it deep into a room, softening the space and making the room comfortable and elegant. You can also choose to block more light by shutting the louvers.
No window covering will completely block out all light – even if you outside mount the window covering, there may be some light leaking out from the top, bottom or sides. For complete “blackout,” the best option is to add a black out drapery over a room darkening window shade – similar to the layered window treatments found in most hotel rooms, but without the heavy liner.
Sleep tight – room darkening shades for the bedroom
For bedrooms, I like room darkening Duette Architella Honeycomb Shades. It has the smallest light gap when inside mounted and can also be outside mounted with little projection, due to the compact headrail. Other honeycomb shades have foil liners or a heavy paper feel, but not Duette Architella. The unique look and feel does not scream “room darkening!” and are beautiful as well as functional.
The right light for media rooms
For media rooms, I recommend motorized Vignette Modern Roman Shades or Skyline Gliding Panels. Imagine controlling the light without leaving your favorite lounge chair – movie starts, blinds closed, movie ends, blinds open – all with the touch of a button! Now that’s what I call relaxing.
