Good news-there’s more to life than a vinyl vertical blind for your sliding glass door!
Sliding glass doors are a common and functional element in many homes. Until recently most sliding glass doors have been dressed in vinyl vertical blinds. Basic beige vinyl blinds are best left for apartment complexes and dorm rooms!
What are the best-dressed sliding doors wearing? If your home style is contemporary or traditional try shutters on a sliding glass door. It has such a clean look and the by-pass system functions great. I love plantation shutters on sliding doors for a light and airy look.
If your door is older and you need premium energy efficiency, nothing beats a Duette Vertiglide honeycomb shade from Hunter Douglas. Think of a Honeycomb shade turned sideways – they have a very compact stack when open, are clean, simple, come in many color choices, and have excellent energy efficiency.
If you prefer a more modern style, you will love some of the newer window shadings available: Luminette® Privacy Sheers, which combine a sheer drapery with vertical vanes that resembles a drapery, but with much more functional abilities or you can have two Silhouette® window shadings or Pirouette® window shadings mounted two-on-one head rail. This configuration allows you to operate each window fashion independently so that you can go freely in and out of the door while still enjoying partial privacy. All come in beautiful sheer fabrics with light filtering or room darkening vanes. Some of the newer fabrics that I love the most have a translucent glimmer or linen texture.
