My client was grateful to have found a gem of a place on an underdeveloped plot of land in Spokane, WA – look at those stunning mountain views! – but the sun could become a real issue at midday.
As is the case with many homeowners throughout the county, there is a need to balance the benefits of natural light, while having the ability to maintain the light to fit your needs. Some clients want as little window obstruction as possible to let the rays blanket their interior rooms, while others may want to close out those rays, usually in an office space or a bedroom, where the sun can quickly turn from peaceful to problematic.
My client was concerned that the sun would reflect off the smooth, polished surfaces in her living space, causing an unpleasant glare, but did not want to completely block out the windows. The windows with their beautiful molding are a definite focal point in the space, so a clean valance was also on the list of must-haves.
