If there is one word that comes to mind when I’m thinking about this particular project, it’s got to be: Innovation. From the high-end materials used to the manner of installation, my client’s window treatments brought together larger-than-life beauty and quality and made it look easy.
My clients recently purchased this 3rd story condo unit for their daughter to occupy, and though they were on the 3rd floor, there was still a need for privacy from the surrounding neighbor’s windows. The dining room window, for instance, overlooked the neighbor’s rooftop deck. Can you imagine their daughter strolling around the house some summer afternoon, only to find an assembly of rooftop barbecuers just outside the window? Yikes!
Shutters aren’t usually my first recommendation for privacy concerns, but it was clear that my clients had their hearts set on shutter – and who could blame them? Shutters are a stunning addition to any room. They’re easily adjustable, durable, and can be matched with any interior or exterior decor.
We chose 3 ½” rear tilt Heritance Hardwood Shutters for their double sash windows, and they perfectly completed the living room and dining room. The white hardwood louvers draw the eyes to the windows. The crisp, clean white shutters are then softened by the warm sand-colored walls, canvas-covered sconces and decorative molding.
When I say beauty and innovation, I mean it. My wonderful installer did something amazing with my client’s Heritance shutters that was hidden so well! You would never know just by looking, but he did what is called a “split tilt” installation. With the split tilt, my clients could have a clean, easy operation of the louvers – without a pesky divider rail – while allowing for separate maneuvering of the top and bottom halves of the louvers. Kind of like the shutter version of top-down and bottom-up shades.
In layman’s terms, the top louvers can remain open to let in the sun, while the bottom louvers could be shut to keep the neighbors’ and my clients’ daughter’s affairs private! Combining this great feature with the natural beauty and energy efficiency of the hardwood louvers added to the refinement of the interiors, without compromising their performance as window coverings.
We continued to soften the appearance in the living room by dressing the Skyline Gliding Window Panels in the slightly creamier Nature’s Walk color. I just love the stunning, wide panels and how the fabric interacts with the canvas sconce shades, creating a soothing, fresh feel, like one would encounter at an upscale spa.
As a final act of privacy and class, we opted for the Duette Architella honeycomb shades. For ease of use and the loveliness that comes with the absence of dangling, tangled cords, my client decided on the the LiteRise top-down and bottom up style shades. The featherlight shades glide without snagging to create the perfect lighting and privacy at any time, day or night.
Even with utilizing three very different window treatments, the house truly came together once the windows were dressed. I’m sure my client’s daughter will want to show off the space as soon as she gets settled in!
