When it comes to putting the finishing touches on a remodeling project, window treatments are like icing on the cake. So I was excited to assist my client, Leslie, find the perfect window coverings for her newly remodeled Tuscan-themed kitchen and adjacent dining area.
Considering Design and Function
Originally, Leslie thought she wanted window treatments with woven woods that would complement the décor in her new kitchen. However, after our consultation, she realized that she preferred the elegant look of shades, which also coordinated with the theme of her remodeled space.
In addition to design considerations, the windows facing the Tuscan-themed kitchen had some practical concerns as well. Leslie’s kitchen became quite warm from the hot afternoon sun.
Selecting the Right Window Treatment Style
To address her temperature control concerns and aesthetic preferences, I showed my client two shade options. First, we took a look at Vignette® Modern Roman Shades that softly filter light and come in unique fabric and design options.
While Leslie liked the Vignette shades, she really fell in love with Solera™ Soft Shades. With cellular construction, the shades offer both light filtering and room darkening features.
Hunter Douglas Solera® Soft Shades
My client was also partial to the simplicity, style, and fabric options of the new Solera shades. I can’t blame her — I love the Solera Soft Shades, too! They’ve got an upscale and fresh look, but they’re softer and more refined than other cellular shades.
Another benefit of the Solera is that it comes with the LiteRise system. This is an option that streamlines the look of shades because you can easily raise and lower the window treatments without cords. Push the shades up to lift them and pull down to lower them. LiteRise was perfect for the simplified elegance of the new kitchen.
Window Coverings As Sunscreen
I find that a few of my clients choose opaque light filtering window coverings in the kitchen, but Leslie wanted room-darkening fabric with her shades. Sometimes called “sunscreen for your valuables,” room-darkening fabric offers 75 percent protection from UV rays and shields furniture, flooring, and artwork from the bright sun in the afternoon.
For Leslie, specifically, she liked that the room darkening fabric would keep the color of her window treatments consistent in the sunlight or evening shade.
A Happy Result For A New Kitchen
Leslie was incredibly happy with how the fluid, sculpted look of the Solera shades coordinated with the theme of her new kitchen and dining space. Solera Shades truly show how simplicity and function can be stylish and beautiful.
