We cannot wait to show you the shiny, happy makeover Emily Henderson of HGTV’s “Design Star” and “Secrets of a Stylist” is working on right now! While Emily finishes working her magic, we wanted to introduce you to the winner of our Shiny, Happy Makeover contest.
Emily S. and her husband Gary live in the Los Angeles area with their three boys – Ian, Reid, and Graham. Ian was born with mosaic triploidy, a very rare chromosome disorder that has impacted his hearing, speech and development. Because Ian was also born early, and his disorder is so rare, his life the first years was very touch-and-go, and remains full of a variety of therapies.
Obviously, they haven’t had a lot of time to devote to home decorating and, as usual, the parents’ needs have been put on the back burner. Of the master bedroom, Emily says, “I mean, nobody goes in there, right? Oh, except for guests who need to use the master bath…”

As a result, the bedroom has become a sort of catch-all area. There are two windows in the room, one off-center on the wall above the bed, and a sliding door that leads into the backyard, and both are still sporting the drab coverings chosen by the home’s previous owner.
